Richard B. Brewer
Chairman of the Board, ARCA biopharma, Inc.

Richard B. Brewer joined SRI's Board in 2006. He has more than 30 years of management experience for the biopharmaceutical and medical device industries. Brewer is chairman of ARCA biopharma, Inc. and of Dendreon Corporation, and executive chairman of Nile Therapeutics. From 2003 to 2009, Brewer was managing partner of Crest Asset Management, where he provided guidance to and invested in biotechnology opportunities.

While CEO and President of Scios Inc. from 1998 to 2004, Brewer directed the company's merger with Johnson & Johnson following development of treatments for cardiovascular diseases. From 1996 to 1998, Brewer served as COO of Heartport, Inc., a company specializing in cardiovascular devices. With Genentech, Inc. from 1984 to 1995, Brewer was responsible for product launches as senior vice president of sales and marketing and senior vice president of Genentech Europe and Canada.

Brewer is a board member of the Institute for Myeloma and Bone Cancer Research. He holds a B.S. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University.
