Focus @ SRI:
Developing telecommunication systems

Title:
Software Engineer, Engineering & Systems Division

Day in the Life @ SRI:
On any given day I could be implementing safety regulations, researching radar technologies, writing an antenna software manual, performing quality assurance or configuration management tasks, writing a portion of code to control a mobile satellite antenna, or traveling to train personnel on antenna assembly and operations. Sometimes, during lunch, I take advantage of the wonderful California weather by playing a fun game of volleyball or softball.

Before SRI:
During college, I was a group leader and mentor for middle school and high school girls for Advocates for Women in Science, Engineering, and Mathematics (AWSEM), an organization focused on encouraging and inspiring girls to pursue their early interests in the sciences. I was also selected as an Entrepreneurial Scholar for an advanced business program designed to guide young entrepreneurs to success through academic study, networking, developing and implementing a personal business plan, and participating in international internships. My studies took me to Australia, Japan, Nepal, and Malaysia. I interned as an electrical engineer for a sound reproduction technology company and as an IT assistant for a prominent paint company.

Academics:
Currently pursuing a master's degree in engineering BSEE with a minor in business from the University of Portland Associate of Arts and Associate of Science from Portland Community College

Why SRI?:
The range of business units, focusing on various fields of technology, provides a unique environment that allows me to use my background in both engineering and business and encourages me to explore and develop my additional technical interests. I also wanted the opportunity to work with and learn from the many local experts who possess great depth and breadth of knowledge in these varying fields.

Inspiration (what motivates you):
To me, being able to go to bed at night feeling happy and great about my day is what it's all about. To ensure this, I do my best to partake in activities that will satisfy my desire for excellence, such as working to improve our quality of life, keeping a good character, having meaningful relationships, and playing hard.

Away from the Office:
Most of my free time goes toward continuing my education, but I play as much volleyball as I can and I enjoy exploring the San Francisco Bay area as I continue to search for that elusive, inexpensive apartment. I am also working on an independent film project profiling the Sherpa community in Namche Bazaar, Nepal, a village at the foot of Mt. Everest - Namaste!

Languages:
I know as much Spanish as my brain allows me to remember while I learn Nepali.

Proudest Accomplishment:
Influencing a group of high school girls to enroll in college and pursue goals they thought were out of their reach

Words of Wisdom for New SRI Team Members:
Take advantage of the many networking opportunities that SRI provides. There are many interesting people to meet and projects to learn about and potentially participate in.

Favorite authors/movies:
