SRI's communications and networking innovations include

• ARPANET/Internet: In 1969, SRI was the recipient of the first logon on the ARPANET, the small government-run computer network that predated the Internet. In a 1977 event described as the first Internet connection, SRI established the first connection between three dissimilar networks.
• GPS: SRI is developing advanced global positioning system tools for military and commercial use.
