Trauma Pod Layout
  • Funded by DARPA and TATRC to develop the next generation of mobile robotic surgery platforms for the military
  • Objective is to develop a system capable of performing life-saving procedures in the field when access to medical personnel and facilities is not possible
  • Collaborators include University of Texas, General Dynamics Robotic Systems, Oak Ridge National Labs, University of Washington, Intuitive Surgical, Robotic Surgical Technologies, Integrated Medical Systems, GE Research, Multidimensional Imaging
  • Current system capabilities include the following:
    • Demonstrated basic surgical procedures
    • Delivery of supplies and tools prompted by verbal command from surgeon
    • Tracking supplies and tools
    • Tracking events during surgery, updating medical records and supply management system
    • Advanced multimodal interface allowing surgeon to control of all system functions without cognitive overload
    • System fits in ISO container
