High-School Girls Fuel Green Riders Program with Fresh Ideas
A new community action project in California, "Green Riders: Innovative Transportation Systems," challenges high school girls to develop ideas for increasing public transportation ridership while lessening environmental impact. The project is led by SRI, Girls Inc. of Alameda County, TERC, and the Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District.

SRI CubeSat Marks First NSF-Funded Launch
SRI's Radio Aurora Explorer (RAX) CubeSat launched in November 2010 on a Minotaur-IV rocket as part of a National Science Foundation program to use CubeSats—small satellites (typically a 10-centimeter cube weighing about one kilogram), for science missions dedicated to space weather and atmospheric research. This CubeSat launch is the first funded by the NSF.

Tactile Technology Could Guide Visually Impaired
Access to documents, graphs, maps, and the Web could become easier for the visually impaired. Zone24x7 and SRI are collaborating to determine the feasibility of incorporating SRI's electroactive polymer artificial muscle (EPAM™) technology into a low-cost, mobile device that would produce high-definition tactile images. EPAM, a smart material technology developed by SRI, has unique vibrotactile properties.

Low-Toxicity Platin Chemotherapies under Development
Platin-based drugs have proven effective against cancer, yet their impact is often diminished by toxicity and resistance.
