Wall-climbing Robot and More: Applications for SRI's Electroadhesion Technology

Electroadhesion, an electrically controllable technology invented and developed at SRI, is what enables SRI's wall-climbing robot to clamp to a variety of wall surfaces covered in debris, or in damp or dusty conditions. Researchers are actively exploring other applications where electroadhesion provides unique benefits, such as making ladders safer or replacing suction cups with a lower-cost solid-state alternative. Electroadhesion has the potential to reduce the energy used in the pick-and-place industry by three orders of magnitude. In this podcast, Harsha Prahlad explains how SRI is working with government agencies, commercial partners, and potential investors to transition this technology into the marketplace.
