Luning Zhang
Postdoctoral Fellow
Molecular Physics Laboratory
Luning Zhang joined SRI International in 2008 as a postdoctoral fellow. His research at SRI focuses on two main topics:
- Surface reactions of graphite materials relevant to thermal protection system of high-speed atmospheric reentry vehicles
- Understanding the controlling factors in engineering diboride-based ultra-high temperature ceramics (UHTC) with desired thermal transport properties
Luning Zhang graduated with a Ph.D. (2008) in chemistry from University of California at Berkeley. He also holds a master degree in physical chemistry from Fudan University in China. He has authored or coauthored 44 papers, most of them published in international chemistry journals.
Luning’s general interest and expertise are:
- Physical chemistry of material surfaces and interfaces
- Molecular spectroscopy of condensed phase materials
- Design and optimization of nonlinear laser optics
- Small molecule interactions and reactions related to atmospheric and environmental chemistry
- Quantum chemical calculation with emphasis on energetics, molecular spectroscopy, interactions, and reaction dynamics
